Photo of the Now: 18 February 2011

The Dexter Library brought in Randy Baker of Naturalist Endeavors to talk to kids about Michigan’s wildlife.  The presentation drew a big crowd!  (My favorite moment was when he referred to the whitetail deer as a “stomach on legs.”)

Here, Baker was talking about the porcupine’s quills and how, if not removed, they’ll work their way through to the other side of whatever they puncture.  Note the expression of the little girl at the bottom left of the photo.
