Ah, you noticed! The photo was timed just right to get the flex in the bat as she was swinging. Getting that sort of photo is a very happy occasion for us photographers.

Photos like that can be an excellent physics lesson. They can also be eye-opening for people who don’t realize that bats do bend back and whip forward during a swing.
