Chelsea hockey faced Davison to town.

As part of the Michigan Public High School Hockey Showcase — a week-long event that brings to town more than 50 high school hockey teams from all over the state — Chelsea faced St. Clair Shores United.

A little incident with the boards a couple weeks back put one of Chelsea’s captains on the bench with an injury:

Here’s hoping we get to see him back on the ice this season.

Hockey can be a rough game:

(Don’t worry. He got patched up and got back in the game.)

Take a look at the expression in this photo:

That’s the expression of someone who can’t believe the referee called a penalty.

With Chelsea holding a 3-2 lead late in the third, SCS United pulled its goalie for the extra attacker. Can you guess what happened next? Here’s a hint:

That’s right: empty net goal!

Chelsea hockey played the second half of its regular-season series with Dexter.

Chelsea’s bench obstructed my view of a goal celebration, but the face in this photo made it good enough to post even with the arm in the way:

Chelsea came back from a two-goal deficit to tie the game, but Dexter managed to come away with a 3-2 victory.

Chelsea hockey faced Saline.

Midway through the game, Saline put the puck in the net…but the referees weren’t so sure it was a valid goal. There was plenty of conversation…

…and the referees ruled no goal.

Chelsea traveled to Jackson’s Optimist Arena for the second half of its season series against Lumen Christi.

Late in the first period, Lumen Christi took a minor penalty. If you know anything about hockey, you probably know that minor penalties are two minutes. Well, usually. That evening in Jackson, that minor penalty was…

If ever you plan to visit Jackson, don’t forget that a Jackson minute has more than 60 seconds.

With Chelsea trailing 2-0 in the second, one Bulldog got behind the Titan defense…

…and scored.

And there was much rejoicing.

And then with under a minute to play in the second, Chelsea tied the game at 2.

Not long after taking a 3-2 lead in the third, Chelsea scored again to take a two-goal lead. The Lumen Christi fans behind the goal were not pleased.

Lumen Christi scored to narrow the deficit to one, but Chelsea answered with yet another goal — its third of the period — to push its lead back to two.

Chelsea held on for a 5-3 victory to sweep the regular-season series against Lumen Christi.

Yet again, there was much rejoicing.
