February and March can be a bit of a weather rollercoaster in Michigan. One day late in February the temperatures warmed enough to start to melt the snow on the roof. While the snow was still melting, the temperatures cooled back down, resulting in a number of these fun formations in one of the gutters.
A few days later the temperatures warmed back up, and the stalagmites began to melt. This one decided to melt from the bottom up.
Shortly after I took that photo the base melted just a bit too much, leading to the collapse of the stalagmite.
