Spring in Michigan: 20 May 2014

This spring has been the Spring of the Tiny Maple Trees in Michigan. Thanks to last spring and this winter, little Canadian flags have sprouted EVERYWHERE. A couple weeks ago I posted a photo of a tree growing in a mildly unconventional spot, but recently I noticed several trees trying to put down roots in a very odd place: about four feet above the ground, between the house and the deck.

In other spring news, there are kittens. While I was taking the above photo, one kitten decided to take a nap on her napping mother.

Vintage Base Ball in Chelsea: 18 May 2014

The Monitor Base Ball Club of Chelsea opened its 2014 home schedule with a match against the Lumber City Base Ball Club of Flint.

Three local musicians performed the national anthem before the match began.

People of all ages showed up to enjoy the match.

If you’d like to check out a match, you can find the 2014 schedule here. Come on out and join the fun!

The library needed a photo of the library, so I took a photo of the library for the library. LIBRARY! (Library.)

Just to be safe, I took two photos.

Spring in Michigan: 10 May 2014

A bumblebee makes a visit to a dandelion

Grass casts shadows on a log that's been bleached by the sun

An antique tiller hides in the tall grass

Where do maple seedlings sprout? As this old fence post lying on the ground found out, ANYWHERE THEY WANT.

Spring in Michigan: 6 May 2014

It seems like winter is (PROBABLY) done for the year here in Michigan, and some of the things that are supposed to turn colors have turned colors. (Mostly green.)

Chelsea’s Historic Downtown: 27 April 2014

Three years ago, Chelsea’s downtown was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This spring, the sign made its debut at the corner of Main and Park (next to the old post office building, if you’re like me and know many of Chelsea’s streets by landmark rather than name).
