This Week in Chelsea Sports Photography: 30 Nov – 6 Dec

Wednesday: Hoc–uh, never mind.
Chelsea was supposed to play a hockey game against Dexter, but a scheduling problem meant there was only a third of the officiating crew at the arena.  Oops.  The game will be rescheduled.

Saturday: Hockey (really!)
On the strength of an Andrew Brown hat trick, Chelsea beat Plymouth, 5-3.

Bonus Create-Your-Own-Caption Photo:

I spent the football season writing captions; now it’s your turn.  Why is Andrew Brown playing air guitar during the game?  Is he inviting Ethan Johnson (19) to play Guitar Hero after the game?

We card, but not like that

If you were reading this blog last winter, you may remember last year’s Christmas card.  Naturally, I’m building another Christmas card this year, but this isn’t the announcement for the new card; instead, this is a new announcement for the old card.  If you enjoyed the card and wanted to send it as your very own Christmas card, rejoice: the Christmas Nutrition card is now available for purchase.  (Don’t worry; all the year- and family-specific references have been removed.)  This year’s card is exclusive to my parents’ Christmas card list in 2008, but it will be available for next Christmas.

Ah, but you’ll want to check the storefront much earlier than next winter, because I’ll also be adding blank note cards featuring some of my photographs.  And for those cards, I’m open to suggestions and requests: if you’d like to see any particular photograph on a card, let me know and I’ll make it happen.

Book ’em, Danno

The 2008 Chelsea football book is ready!

This year’s football book is the result of over 170 hours of work, from shooting and processing through writing and layout.  In its 80 pages it features original game recaps and over 160 photos from the 2008 football season, and it is, in fact, at least somewhat amazing.  It’s available in softcover, hardcover with dustjacket, and printed hardcover; prices range from $49.95 to $62.95.

To order, visit the photo book store.

MHSAA football finals, Ford Field (28 November 2008).

On the Friday after Thanksgiving, I made my first trip to Ford Field for the Michigan high school football finals.  (Actually, it was two firsts: I’d never been to Ford Field, and I’d never been to the high school football finals.)  The finals featured eight games across two days, but I went for only two games on Friday because I had an interest in two teams: Leslie and Holland Christian.  Leslie struggled a bit and lost to Montague, but my day at the stadium had a happy ending when Holland Christian knocked off Detroit Country Day to win a state championship in only the sixth year of the football program’s existence.

The first photo above shows the Holland Christian offense just before it scored another touchdown; the second photo shows a Holland Christian fan taking a picture of the trophy presentation; the third photo shows the postgame traffic in the concourse.
