Newspaper shoot: City directory (9 April 2008)

The other day, Editor Terry asked me to get a few shots around town for this year’s city directory; one specific request he had was for a shot of the interior of the Common Grill, Chelsea’s fancy-pants restaurant. With its murals of local sights framed by the building’s original brick walls, it’s not difficult to come up with pleasant pictures of the Common Grill; the above was my favorite of the bunch.

Me talk pretty

Since I started my photography business, my work has given me several opportunities to do a little public speaking.  Those of you who know me need no further comment, but for those who don’t know me: public speaking is not one of my talents.  If you haven’t been exposed to my marginal public speaking ability, you can get the next best thing to actual footage by reading this comic:

That comic comes from the outstanding Garfield Minus Garfield blog.

Handipunk accessible

The other day, I was compelled to follow a friend of mine into Hot Topic, a happily angry store that makes my bland t-shirt-and-jeans fashion sense scream and run for its life. When I looked out the front window — I think they let me in because of my bushy goatee — I noticed a small sticker that has the most awesomeness per capita of any sticker in the midwest, if not the nation.

Sadly, they don’t make those stickers available to the general public, so I couldn’t get my hands on one. So if you have connections inside Hot Topic, now is the time to use them.

Always read the fine print

A year or two ago, I took a few pictures of my pastor Clark Cothern so he would have something to submit with the articles he writes for various publications. Eventually I forgot about those pictures, but then a few months ago, he let me know that one of the pictures would be accompanying an article in Discipleship Journal. I never did get my own copy of the issue, but my sister is a subscriber, so she scanned the article for me; sure enough, right there on the second page of the article is my photo.

And just so all you skeptical readers out there believe that it’s actually mine:

Davidson good

When I checked the NCAA basketball tournament scores last night, I was startled to discover Davidson’s not-so-close win over Wisconsin. I wanted to know more about the game, so I followed the link to the game recap; when the recap opened, the shortened title showing in the tab provided a good two-word summary of the game:

Book ’em, Danno
