Sounds & Sights: 11 June 2015

For the first time since 2013, Sounds & Sights faced a weather forecast that was a bit less than optimistic. (No, I’m not exaggerating. Every Thursday night last summer was beautiful.) However, the cloudy skies and the chance of rain didn’t stop people from coming out to enjoy the fun of a summer Thursday night in Chelsea!

As usual, Kevin Kramis was hosting the comedy night on the library lawn.

He always does a good job of promoting the library’s programs and events.

20150611sounds-16

Kevin is a nice guy, and we’re always happy to see him in Chelsea. Kevin is also a funny guy.

20150611sounds-23

In addition to being nice and funny, Kevin is also expressive. I can never resist putting together a selection of the faces he makes while he’s being funny.

That last face came with a good punchline — I was laughing as I was shooting photos — but I’m going to let you all enjoy it out of context. (Sorry, Kevin. Like I said…I couldn’t resist.)

The comedy continued.

Sounds & Sights: 4 June 2015

Last Thursday was the first Thursday in June. That means it was the first Sounds & Sights of 2015! The beautiful weather brought a cheerful crowd to downtown Chelsea.

Once again, Thursdays in June are featuring comedy on the library lawn.

One of the major attractions of Sounds & Sights is the deliciously portable offering from Smokehouse 52: the Piggy Parfait.

Gutter Stalagmites: February/March 2015

February and March can be a bit of a weather rollercoaster in Michigan. One day late in February the temperatures warmed enough to start to melt the snow on the roof. While the snow was still melting, the temperatures cooled back down, resulting in a number of these fun formations in one of the gutters.

A few days later the temperatures warmed back up, and the stalagmites began to melt. This one decided to melt from the bottom up.

Shortly after I took that photo the base melted just a bit too much, leading to the collapse of the stalagmite.

Winter in Chelsea: 16 February 2015

The past two winters here have featured some harsh weather, but barn cats are hardy creatures who can handle the extremes of Michigan’s seasons.

Still, even the hardiest barn cat may sometimes wonder what life is like inside the house.

Vintage Base Ball: 2 May 2015

Vintage base ball is back! The Monitors started their 2015 season with a trip to Port Huron (alternate name: Almost Canada).

Before we headed to the match, we made a quick stop at a park to enjoy the view of the water and (a tiny bit of) Canada.
